Three Things: Random Mix
I’m a little bleary this morning but didn’t want to leave you hanging two weeks in a row, so the word of the day is brevity. I have started putting together my year-end lists of best books and movies, though, which I know you await with bated breath. I’m also scheming on some bigger plans for next year, writing-wise. Excitement!
🎵 Andre 3000
If you have not yet plunged into the deeply groovy pool that is New Blue Sun, hie thee to your favorite streaming service and do so now. You will resist it at first. “What the hell is this?” you will say. “Why are all the song titles 20 words long? Does he not rap anymore?” are also things you will say. Then you’ll listen to it a second time and it will start to make sense. Then you’ll dig deeper in to his playlist Andre 3000 Digs Jazz. And then the universe will coalesce into a sparkling wave of sound that will carry you into a deeper level of consciousness.
Anyway.
🎥 No Hard Feelings (Netflix)
I’ve long thought that Jennifer Lawrence would be an awesome friend to hang out with and that was solidified when I watched her Hot Ones episode. (Good god, it is funny.) No Hard Feelings seals that argument up nice and tight. It’s a super-fun rom-com (kinda) that has you really rooting for both the leads by the end. But the reason you absolutely must watch this is for the beach scene. I will say no more.
🖥️ Henry Kissinger, War Criminal Beloved by America’s Ruling Class, Finally Dies
Listen, every human has a complicated life story. We are none of us sin-free. But there are a few individuals who made such an indelible, earth-shaking, torturous impact on human history that they deserve an honest airing of their sins when they die. Rolling Stone reporter Spencer Ackerman channeled Hunter S. Thompson in his searing obituary of Kissinger, the nicest part of which is the headline. Take some time to read up on the details of the destruction this one human wrought upon the earth.
Until next week, my friends. Xoxo
